Sunamganj (সুনামগঞ্জ)  is a district in Sylhet Administrative division in Bangladesh. As a Border district Sunamganj has less communication facilities. But in comparison with other district Sunamganj preserves a vast natural resources and Landscapes. Life in Sunamganj is an ordinary life as other Bangladeshis but the culture and languages are an important issue in Sunamganj. There are a few verities of languages and Cultures in Sunamganj district. Particularly in Jagannathpur and Chhatak areas are influenced by Sylhet district's main stream language and culture. But on the other hand, Maddhanagar and Dharampasha areas are influenced by Mymenshingh's main stream cultures. Derai and Shalla ares are influenced by Habiganj's main stream culture. A very imortant cultural diversity in Sunamganj is in Bishwamvarpur area. Mostly migrated people are living there. Most of them are migrated from Greater Comilla district area during 40's. A cultural influence of Comilla is in presence in the Bishwamvarpur area's people. However, Sunamganj Sadar, Tahirpur, Jamalganj and Duara Bazar are located in the middle of Sunamganj district. For that reason there is a strong cultural practice and heritage inherited in the sunamganj sadar and ther surrounding residents. Sunamganj Sadar, Tahirpur, Jamalganj and Duara Bazar preserves the strong sunamganjee accents and cultural heritage. 

Sunamganj township is the centre of Sunamganjee main stream culture. A very interesting observation in my life-time in Sunamganj is - I found that the resident of  the western part of the township speaks with a bit deffrent dialect from the eastern part.

People loves songs and the stories. Many poets and bauls born in Sunamganj. Hasan Raja, Durbin Shah, Baul Abdul Karim are very femous in name. But there are many unknown poets and bauls are still living in the far villages in Sunamganj that people yet to know.

Religion and practice is one of the most main cultural element of Sunamganj. There are few big tamples you can find in the Sunamganj town. Wherever you go I am sure you will find a Hindu tample in sunamganj.

Muslim are the majority by population in Sunamganj. The below picture is the Sunamganj's central masque where the two Eid's prayer (annual prayer for muslim) is held.

Tanguar Haor is a new word heritage. This is a haor (waterland) where there is a natural diversity inherited in its environment specially migrated birds come and live in the Tanguar Haor.
